In 1982, Andy Davies was involved with FM station J1000. However, later in that year he could also be heard on 1242 kHz medium wave.

The station was first heard in early December 1982 and had a number of names including DBC and ‘free radio on AM and FM’, before settling on Merseyside Free Radio (MFR).

As well as 1242 kHz, 241 metres, they used 97.6 FM in stereo and had a great signal across the whole North West. Other DJs included Kevin Hall and Steven Bishop.
