IBC (Illegal Broadcasting Company) Radio broadcast from Bury, from 16th Aug 1987 till April 1997.

They were heard mostly on 104.4, initially playing hip hop and soul. Its first broadcast of 1990 (on April 1st) saw the introduction of JuJu, spinning house on his show. It became so popular, they even had a telephone interview with Shades Of Rhythm on it.

In March 1991, the then unknown Autechre were guests on the show, talking about their work; and even playing some demo tapes they had made. They were repeat visitors and soon had their own show on the station. A further new addition was DJ Andy Richards; and, as Belgian techno exploded, IBC followed suit.

The stations growth lead to longer transmissions; as well as successful club nights called Sweatbox – which fully lived up to its name!

Other presenters included Steve King and Quantice, who continued to host their legendary soul show at this time – and were pivotal in the running of the station. Many of the stations presenters ended up making records as well playing them. Quantice was also responsible for tunes such as Humbug, its remix, 4th Dimension and Thunderbolt in 1991,
