New evening lineup for BBC Radio 1

Post by Gary Edwards » Sun Aug 17, 2008 4:23 pm

BBC Radio 1 has unveiled a new evening lineup and confirmed that Dave Pearce will leave the station after 13 years.

The new schedule, which comes into effect in October, will see Kissy Sell Out and Kutski host regular programmes on the station. 1Xtra's MistaJam will host a regular Mixtape show on Saturday nights.

"Radio 1 is here to champion the very best in new music and new DJ talent and I believe that these schedule changes mean we can continue to do this even more effectively," said Radio 1 head of programmes Ben Cooper. "Kissy, Kutski and MistaJam are DJs who are completely passionate about the music they play and the audience they play to. I'm really happy that they will now all have their own regular shows."

The new Friday night lineup in full:

Pete Tong 7-9pm
Annie Mac 9-11pm
Judge Jules 11-1pm
Kutski 1-3am
Essential Mix 3-5am
Annie Nightingale 5-7am

The new Saturday schedule will be:

Trevor Nelson 7-9pm
The Radio 1 Rap Show with Tim Westwood & Goldfinger 9pm-1am
R1's D&B Show 1-3am
1Xtra Mixtape with MistaJam 3-5am
Ras Kwame 5-7am

"Our newest recruits – Heidi Van den Amstel, Jaymo and Andy George – are a fantastic addition to the In New DJs We Trust line-up," continued Cooper. "I'd also like to thank both Dave and Eddie for their commitment to Radio 1 and wish them all the very best for the future."

Could we now see Dance Anthems back on a Sunday night on another station?

:skull Suprised that Dave Pearce is getting the axe ,perhaps he is too old for the station now, perhaps one of the commercial networks will pick up the show.
Interesting to see that Anne Nightingale is still around ,she has been at Radio1 approx 40 years now.
Dick and Dom are also getting the Axe.I dont think anyone will miss them. :laugh

I wouldn't think it's anything to do with age, as his show isn't bad really.
He's the cheesiest dance jock on R1, and connects well with his audience, who i find are a lot of people who like the commercial stuff and the anthems he plays. He's not quite as deep as Jules or Tong.
As for the age, Tong should be about 45 now, and Westwood is over 50 i think.
Dave does have a bloody good knowledge of dance music as a whole, and is a nice bloke to boot. I have a sneaky feeling R1 are gradually edging out the dance music, so in (for eg) 5 years time, dance will be minimal or none existent.

As for Dick and Dom, how the hell did they get on there anyway? :sad

Bloody personality radio Andy, that's what it is. Same reason why Terry Wogan 'came out' of retirement, or the dodgy dealings in the 1990s to bring a certain ginger idiot to Radio 1 Breakfasts. But the worst infiltration by personality radio is on 6 Music, a station where people who really know and love their music, such as Gideon Coe have been replaced by loudmouthed chavs such as George Lamb who shows absolutely no respect for the music he should be presenting to his audience. He is one of the many reasons that I cannot bear to listen to 6 Music now when two years ago I used to listen to it all the time.

Quality MUSIC radio does not exist in the mainstream any more. That was put to rest with John Peel. Long live the pirates, real radio for real people.

I now hear that Lauren Laverne is joining 6 Music. Another controversy merchant who's in love with the sound of her own voice. Whatever next? Replacing Lamacq with BNP-loving James Whale just to get people listening for the wrong reason?

I quite like Dangerous Dave Pearce tho and I'll miss him

BBC 6 Music should now in fairness be renamed BBC Radio 6 and drop the 'Music' from its moniker as it seems to be dropping the music from its daytime schedules. Rant over!

If Westwood is 51, will we expect to see him sitting in for Jeremy Vine on the 'New Light Programme' soon? Or have a look at the new contestant list for the next series of 'Strictly Come Dancing' you might see him on there!

Sorry Tim! It's just that I cannot imagine him to be 51. He's a Peter Pan!!

I've always quite liked Lauren Laverne. She was great on XFM breakfast and certainly knows her music.

Back to the original question. Where do we think Dave will turn up?

Network show on the former GCAP stations? Or Galaxy?

Or howabout Dance classics on Heart?!

I think I'll go with Virgin or maybe XFM for a couple of outside bets.

Laverne is like one of those people you love or hate, like Marmite!

I'd say he may turn up on Kiss, so he stays London sides.
Galaxy as an outside chance, but i think Heart would be way too girlie for him.

Cant see Dave ending up on a rock station. It'd be totally alien to him.
