Looks like Bauer are rebranding Sig 107, rumour has it all the presenters have been told and the station closing with feeds taken from elsewhere.
Another clone.
Signal 107
Re: Signal 107
This'll be interesting...
No point putting the Hits Network on it (cos of Free). I could see the point in putting Greatest Hits on the Telford and Shrewsbury transmitters - but makes no sense in Wolverhampton or Kiddy.
Dare I say it - Kiss???

Re: Signal 107
So Bauer now own most of the output in the Midlands. Crazy.
I've not listened to GHR for a long time, maybe it's changed or has found it's niche but it really did bore me to the point it was hard work staying in tune.
Kiss is an option, I would have said Absolute but they took that off for GHR.

Re: Signal 107
I doubt this will happen, but I saw it suggested on another forum...
Kiddy, Telford, Shrewsbury, Oswestry can be GHR.
Switch Hits from 97.2 to 107.7 as the reduced coverage won't matter as it will still be on 103.1, 96.4, 96.7, 97.6 and 102.8.
Then put Kiss on 97.2....

Re: Signal 107
Not a bad shout Gary.... Then talk nicely to the right "friends" and get the null towards birmingham removed from 97.2 (or at least reduced...)

Re: Signal 107
That's the only thing holding 97.2 back. When they changed the aerials and removed those massive shields from behind the crossed dipoles I thought it may make more of a difference. I know the mast itself affects it as well though.
Kiss on 97.2? I've often wondered since Bauer took over if a bigger name took the frequency whether they could remove the null and maybe try for extra power. Guess that depends on what else would be on or around 97.2 nationally. Was the null originally to protect Mercia?

Re: Signal 107
If the null has been there since day 1, I'm guessing it wasn't to protect anything (there wasn't much else on in those days), probably just to concentrate the signal in the core service area. Turners is kinda on the edge of Beacon's service area.
Mercia was on 95.9 when it launched in 1980, moving to 97 in 1987.
Does the null make much difference? I thought it still pretty solid in Brum?

Officially:

I expect the null was just to protect BRMBs listenership and revenue though...

Lol, probably.
There was a lot of bloody-minded decisions by the old IBA.
They didn't like stations to get outside their area, sometimes when there was nothing else there anyway
