Re: Happy memories!

Just had another fantastic one hour twenty eight down memory lane, this time with Keith Rogers' "baby"! I can just about taste the cow pies of Mad O'Rourkes along with the grorty dick Isn't it strange that the sort of stuff I'd listen to on SA back then I'd never take any notice off in terms of the ...

Re: Happy memories!

What a wonderful way to use up your spare megabytes of data that you have over in a charging period than on some downloads from thepiratearchive.net!! How good it was to hear County and the voice of Steve Merrick again and all those cheesy old songs from the 80s. Incidentally, did you know Tracie Yo...

Re: Sunshine Radio - Ludlow 299m/1017khz

No time to do Smiths I'm afraid but I did take my mobile with me, which has a radio. Great to hear so many pirates on the airwaves. Sting FM 107.5's signal reached as far as Longbridge on my receiver, although there was another reggae station on 107.0 whose signal came and went whilst walking round ...

Re: Happy memories!

I found out about Sally S after googling her - very sad. Another thing I'll always remember about free radio as a kid was happily listening away to County Radio on 94.4 one day in about 1984 and suddenly programmes were stopped and 'Man Of Action' came on followed by a panicky sounding Steve Merrick...

Re: Sunshine Radio - Ludlow 299m/1017khz

Thank you Martin. I'm going home on Wednesday so I'll check out Smiths and all the other bookshops. The stuff concerning ATV/Central on Youtube is worth having a gawp at.

Right, let's have a butchers at the new Sunshine stuff then...

Re: Happy memories!

Oh yes Keith, at that time the 255 frequency was announced as 1179kHz, so it must have been during 1983 that the miniscule change to 1188 occured. Incidentally, I swear the DJ said that they had taken the one step up the dial because some guy had contacted them saying he couldn't tune into Radio 3 (...

Re: Happy memories!

Yes KR, indeed it was DJ that did the Tamla Motown. 'I Need Your Lovin'/Teena Marie, Bonnie Pointer, 'Jimmy Mack' were some of the songs I can remember hearing. It was a wonderful way to introduce a 13 year old boy like me to the joys of Tamla Motown music!

Freedom FM's signal could be heard well into Shropshire too.

Re: Sunshine Radio - Ludlow 299m/1017khz

Thanks ever so for that Gary, I'm in the picture now! As you are a mine of info on radio, I've been in the past trying to find out about that 1980s Radio Wyvern theme song that always used to open and close the station at 6am and 8pm respectively. It had some really bizarre lyrics: Home is a place w...

Re: Sunshine Radio - Ludlow 299m/1017khz

Good evening Gary! ...and what was this 'Channel 55' thing about then? I know about the FM band being divided up into 'channels' - many old sets in the UK have channel numbers alongside the frequencies, but I was never sure as to any similar system on the AM band. James Harding, as saft as he came o...
